Back on Track.
I'm recovering from yesterday's craptastic-ness with the help of:
1. Having dinner with my lovely best friend Sarah
2. Cooking delicious Christmas fare
3. Noshing on cookies and truffles
4. Taking multiple naps in a single day
I refuse to be bummed out on the holidays.

Defeated
Some days... are so bad you don't know why you even try. I'm just very sad and empty today.

First do no harm
I've been thinking about this paraphrase from the Hippocratic Oath a lot recently, especially in terms of how we could all be better people if we applied this simple concept to our actions. The Buddha suggested we ask ourselves a brief series of questions before deciding if what we are about to say/do is good:
Is it truthful?
Is it helpful?
Is it kind?
Is it necessary?
Pearls of wisdom like this are why I like The Buddha. If you haven't already, I'd highly suggest reading up on his thoughts such as The Four Noble Truths and The Noble Eightfold Path. The Path, again, centers around trying to live a life focused on positive actions. After The Buddha died, some of his followers mucked up his philosophy by making him almost god-like, but in reality The Buddha refused to speak on anything supernautral whatsoever. That's why I can swing with The Buddha. He was just a guy, saying what he thought about the world (which was usually dead on accurate), and trying to help people out.
Common sense and kindness - beats out religion 100% of the time.

I am SO angry right now...
Apparently the army is going to be making soldiers shoot live pigs in a medical training exercise.
Are you fucking kidding me????????
Animal testing of any kind makes my blood boil, and this is no exception. Pigs are some of the most empathetic, intelligent animals that exist on this world. I can't even imagine how horrifically traumatizing this experience will be for them.
Please let the army know that this type of training is unacceptable, barbaric, and inhumane.
